Jatiya Kabi Kazi Nazrul Islam University was established on 01 March 2005. The government of Bangladesh entirely finances it. The short name is JKKNIU.
In Bangladesh, Kabi Kazi Nazrul is popular as Jatiya Kabi. Presently, the ranking of the public university with 3464 students is 9296. The place is at the Nama Para Battala area. It is around 1.5 kilometers from Trishal sub-district, and 100 kilometers from Dhaka. This varsity stands to be the one and only cultural university in Bangladesh.
Much before the endeavor of making such an institute was encouraged before the government took the initiative to finance it. Previously the Greater Mymensingh Cultural Forum, a non-official group of socio-cultural local elites took the initiate to start such a cultural institute. But on 2006, JKKNIU was enacted as a general university with a special focus on performing arts, research, and education.
