Leather Technology College is now the Institute of Leather Engineering & Technology. It is an educational institution at Hazaribagh in Dhaka. The short name is ILET. Bangladesh College of Leather Technology was its Previous name.

About Leather Technology College

Now, it provides graduate courses on making leather, leather products, and footwear. The University of Dhaka affiliates the college. The college has established on 10 June 1949. It was a diploma institution until 1979. Now, it offers graduate courses in B.Sc. Engineering in Leather under the University.

It is a specialized educational institution in Bangladesh. It was established to creating adequate human resources for producing leather products for meeting the need of East Pakistan. The College is the country’s single educational institution which provides skilled engineers for the second largest foreign exchange earning sector of Bangladesh.

On 18 August 2011, the college has renamed the Institute of Leather Engineering and Technology (ILET) of University of Dhaka. Leather engineering is a specialized education that deals with the manufacturing technology of leather, microbiology, chemistry, and biotechnology involved in the leather production. Every year, after HSC result, they offer student admission for 1 st year in BSc.Facilities Available for the Students:

Bangladesh College of Lather Technology has hostel facility for the students. There are separate hostel facilities for male and female students. Both female and male hostels have 300 seats respectively. There are about 52 female students can live in the teacher’s quarter. There are medical for the students which consist of one medical officer and one compounder. It has a big library for the students with thousands of engineering books. The practical classrooms are equipped with very modern and up to date machinery.

Admission Procedure and Eligibility

The admission of the college takes place under “ka unit” of the University of Dhaka. The admission takes place according to the rules and regulation of the University of Dhaka. There are about 120 seats in the 40 departments of the institute. Hence, the students have to face intense competition for the admission.

To be eligible for the admission the students must have a science background in HSC. The students must have a minimum combined GPA in SSC and HSC determined by the University of Dhaka. The final merit list is created combining the marks of written test and eight times of the combined GPA of both SSC and HSC.

Admissions are going on merit base. College authority admits the students from the waiting list on the base of vacancy available. The students have to submit necessary documents determined by the college authority at the time of admission.
